Norwegian Cruise Line announces more solo cabins for solo passengers

Norwegian Cruise Line plans to significantly increase the number of cabins available for solo travelers in response to the rising trend of solo travel. The cruise line will add approximately 1,000 new cabins to all 19 ships in its fleet, introducing three new categories specifically designed for solo travelers: Solo Inside, Solo Oceanview, and Solo Balcony. Currently, only 9 ships offer accommodations tailored for single occupancy.

The addition of these new solo staterooms will commence in January 2024, with cabin sales beginning this week. Pricing will be determined based on availability and demand, but solo travelers can expect to pay less than they would for a traditional double occupancy cabin.

David J. Herrera, the president of Norwegian Cruise Line, expressed the popularity of their solo staterooms since their introduction in 2010 on the Norwegian Epic. Recognizing the increasing desire for individuals to travel alone, the cruise line has made the decision to expand single occupancy options across its entire fleet.

A decision made due to the increase in solo travelers

Solo travelers on Norwegian Cruise Line will enjoy the benefits of the new solo stateroom categories, which grant access to the exclusive Studio Lounge. This private area, reserved solely for those in solo cabins, features a dedicated lounge and a stylish bar. Currently, the Studio Lounge can be found on Norwegian Prima, Norwegian Viva, Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Escape, Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Getaway, Norwegian Epic, and Pride of America.

While it remains unknown if the rest of the fleet will be retrofitted with Studio Lounges, ships without solo cabins may see double-occupancy rooms reclassified for solo use. These ships are unlikely to be equipped with the trendy and compact Studio Staterooms found on Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest vessels.
This exciting development is sure to delight solo cruisers seeking to explore all the destinations offered by Norwegian Cruise Line.
