Nassau Cruise Port Announces $35 Million Investment in New Water Park

Nassau Cruise Port in the Bahamas is launching an exciting $35-million water park project aimed at families. This new attraction will enhance the port’s recent $330-million redevelopment, with completion targeted for December 2025.

Located on the port’s western side near the amphitheater, the water park will occupy a finger-shaped greenspace. Although construction hasn’t started, the site is ready, and necessary permits are in place, awaiting final approval.

Port officials, including Maura, have highlighted the appeal to family-friendly cruise lines such as Disney Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean International, along with popular Bahamian attractions, as key motivations for the water park.

As the busiest port in the Bahamas, Nassau welcomes up to 30,000 passengers daily, setting a record of 29,316 in December 2023. Currently, many visitors use the port as a transit point to other Nassau attractions like Paradise Island’s Atlantis Resort, which generates nearly $359 million in annual revenue, given the port’s offerings of shopping, dining, and bars aren’t enough to keep all visitors entertained.

By adding its own water park, the port aims to become a destination itself. Currently, family-oriented cruise lines often stop at their private Bahamian islands, such as Disney’s Castaway Cay and the new Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.

Nassau Cruise Port is experiencing significant tourism growth, being the main entry point to The Bahamas. It made headlines by accommodating seven cruise ships simultaneously in March 2024, following a record-breaking daily passenger count.

The water park is expected to boost island visitor spending and create 350 jobs. This initiative follows the port’s $330-million upgrade completed in May 2023, which led to new berths that helped Nassau Cruise Port achieve record-breaking passenger and ship numbers.
