Royal Caribbean International has chosen the name Star of the Seas for its second Icon-class ship, set to launch in the summer of 2025. According to Michael Bayley, the president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, the concept of combining the best aspects of various types of vacations has generated even more excitement than expected. Star of the Seas aims to meet the unprecedented consumer demand that has been observed for nearly a year since the introduction of Icon of the Seas.
In October 2022, the unveiling of Icon and Icon Class resulted in the most significant single-day bookings and the busiest booking week in the history of the cruise line, which had been operating for 53 years at that point. As a result of this high demand, Royal Caribbean decided to release the 2025-26 cruises on Icon three months ahead of schedule, along with announcing the name and debut season of Star. More information regarding the ship’s features and deployment will be revealed in due course, according to Royal Caribbean.
It is highly probable that the deck plans for Star of the Seas will closely resemble those of Icon of the Seas.
Eco-Friendly Technology
Being built at Finland’s Meyer Turku shipyard, Star of the Seas will be fueled by liquefied natural gas (LNG) in order to decrease emissions and incorporate various environmentally friendly characteristics. This development comes after its sibling ship, Icon of the Seas, which was also constructed at Meyer Turku, became the fleet’s inaugural vessel to operate on LNG, employ energy-conserving fuel cell technology, and possess the ability to connect to shore power. Similarly, the third ship in the Icon-class series will also rely on LNG as its fuel source.
