On July 7, 2023, the Marella Cruise Ship experienced an engine fire that forced the cancelation of the next sailing. No passengers were injured, but the ship sustained significant damage. The fire was caused by a faulty fuel line and resulted in an evacuation of the ship. The Marella is currently being repaired and is expected to resume sailing in August 2023.
Marella Cruises (formerly Thomson Cruises) is a British cruise line operated by TUI UK, offering cruise holidays around Europe, the Caribbean, and Asia.
TUI Statement: “Unfortunately, due to the impacts of the fire, the next cruise departing from Port Canaveral on Sunday has been cancelled. We understand that this may cause disruption and inconvenience to those affected and we are taking steps to provide assistance.
Our customer teams are in contact with those impacted and will provide them with the necessary support they need with regards to their future travel plans. Depending on the customers’ outward travel dates, they will be offered a full or pro-rata refund, as well as holiday vouchers as a gesture of goodwill.”
This serves as a reminder that we should be careful when choosing a cruise line, and research the safety record of the company thoroughly before booking a trip. Furthermore, it is important to check the reviews of past customers to get a better understanding of the cruise line’s services and safety standards. Ultimately, taking the time to properly research cruise lines can help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all passengers.
