The Carnival Cruise Line welcomed a new ship, the Carnival Luminosa, in the fall of 2022. This 2,260-passenger vessel was formerly known as Costa Luminosa, owned by Carnival Corporation’s Costa Cruises brand. Before its debut under a new name and design, it underwent a significant renovation.
The ship was initially constructed at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy in 2009 and previously sailed for Costa Cruises for 13 years. It underwent a significant dry-dock to align it with Carnival’s Spirit-class vessels, such as the Carnival Miracle, Carnival Legend, Carnival Pride, and Carnival Spirit. The refurbishment also included the addition of the signature red, white, and blue hull livery that was first introduced on the cruise line’s flagship vessel, the Mardi Gras, in 2021. Additionally, the ship’s throwback funnel design, which was once present on some of Carnival’s earlier vessels, has been retained.
Deck Plans
Carnival Luminosa has been updated to include popular dining options, bars, and entertainment experiences such as Playlist Productions, The Punchliner Comedy Club, and Limelight Lounge. Guests can also enjoy the Piano Bar 88, Alchemy Bar, RedFrog Rum Bar, Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse, Chef’s Table, Bonsai Sushi Express, and Seaday Brunch. The ship’s spa has been converted to Carnival’s Cloud 9 spa, which will now feature its own stateroom category. Additionally, one of the pool decks has been transformed into Carnival’s adult-only Serenity retreat.
Cabins
The Carnival Luminosa boasts a variety of cabins and suites, ranging from small 13.65 square metre interior staterooms to spacious 68.09 square metre grand vista suites. Of the 1,130 cabins and suites, 662 have balconies, as well as 106 suites. The ship is divided into eight levels of staterooms, with a total of 14 configurations, including interior, ocean view, and balcony cabins, junior balcony and panorama suites, and cloud 9 spa suites. Families can take advantage of the 102 connecting rooms. For a top-tier experience, the grand vista suite is the way to go, with ample space and a beautiful aft-facing wraparound balcony, perfect for sipping champagne at sunset. Suites come with added amenities like priority check-in and boarding, as well as bathrobes and complimentary water.
Food Options
For those looking for a variety of dining options on board, the Lido Marketplace on Deck 9 provides a buffet for breakfast, lunch, and early dinner, while the Main Dining Room Vela Restaurant on decks 2 and 3 is available for lunch and dinner. If you prefer to sleep in, the Seaday brunch is a popular choice. Additionally, Italian and Mexican nights offer a change of pace. For those seeking fine dining, there are only two options: Fahrenheit 555 and the Chef’s Table. However, room service, Sushi Bonsai Express, Java Blue Cafe, and coffee at the Atrium Bar are available for an extra cost. If the buffet isn’t your style and you want something more casual than the Vela Dining Room, the made-to-order Del Capitano Pizzeria, Deli Artisan Eats, Ol’ Barbecue, and Taco and Burrito spots are excellent choices.
Fun for Kids
While Carnival Luminosa wasn’t specifically created for children, kids of all ages can still have a great time on board and it’s already included in the ticket price. The first stop for young ones should be Camp Ocean, which is like a summer camp on the ocean for children aged 2 to 11. They have a variety of daily activities for kids and families, such as Conga for Kids, Family Arts and Crafts, Board Games Fun, Science & Discovery, and more. For those between the ages of 12 and 14, Circle C offers dance parties and outdoor movies in a designated area. Meanwhile, Club 02 is for 15 to 17 year-olds, where they can enjoy sports, karaoke, and video games. You can also play mini golf, participate in competitions, shoot some hoops, and play games on the deck. If you download the Carnival Hub app, you can stay up-to-date on all the activities scheduled for the day.
