Expected to set sail in July 2024, Utopia of the Seas is Royal Caribbean International’s sixth colossal cruise ship in the Oasis Class. With a capacity to accommodate over 6,700 passengers, the name of the new vessel was revealed by the company after considering almost 25 other trademarked options. Utopia of the Seas will proudly be the inaugural ship in its class to be fueled by eco-friendly Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), following in the footsteps of Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas.
Float Out ceremony
In September 2023, the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, witnessed the birth of Utopia of the Seas as it gracefully glided into the waters, signaling the beginning of the ship’s next chapter. The awe-inspiring event, spanning 15 hours, involved immersing the ship’s dry dock with an astonishing 46 million gallons of water, creating a seamless transition for the vessel to assume its rightful place.
The deck plans will be recognizable, fresh and innovative
Royal Caribbean has recently unveiled limited information about their newest ship in the record-breaking Oasis Class, which surpassed Wonder of the Seas as the largest cruise ship in the world. Utopia of the Seas, while larger than Wonder, will have a smaller number of staterooms compared to its sister ship. Passengers can anticipate encountering both familiar and fresh features onboard.
After the traditional steel-cutting ceremony for the ship held in April 2022, Royal Caribbean’s President and CEO, Michael Bayley, strongly hinted at the numerous innovations to be found on Utopia of the Seas.
In April 2023, it was disclosed that one of these innovations would be an original dining concept inspired by the romance of classic train travel and iconic dining cars, such as the Venice-Simplon-Orient Express and Rocky Mountaineer’s dining carriages. Although the name and specific details have not been announced, Royal Caribbean has shared that this immersive dining experience will transport diners on virtual train journeys around the world, while savoring the culinary delights and beverages from the destinations showcased on digital screens.
Utopia of the Seas will boast a selection of five pools, catering to different moods and preferences, ranging from lively and energetic to serene and tranquil.
At the center of the ship’s pool deck, you’ll find the bars. The pool designed for younger passengers, known as Splashaway Bay, and The Perfect Storm, which boasts high-speed waterslides, will also be featured. On Utopia of the Seas, Royal Caribbean’s iconic slide, Ultimate Abyss, will be even longer than on its sister ships, measuring a total of 295 feet with the addition of new zoom booster rollers and transparent racing windows. Other exciting attractions include the AquaDunes minigolf, FlowRider surf simulator, and Utopia Playscape.
20+ Dining options
Aboard the Utopia of the Seas, there is a newly established eatery that has yet to be named. This unique dining experience aims to recreate the ambiance of a train journey, combining various courses, technology, and different destinations and storylines.
One of the familiar favorites, Izumi, a popular Asian restaurant by Royal Caribbean, will be situated in Central Park. This revamped version will offer twice as many teppanyaki tables and introduce new al fresco seating. Right next door, Izumi in the Park will serve sushi and Japanese-inspired treats for those on the go.
Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar will be another delightful option on the Utopia of the Seas. Spanning two stories, this restaurant will include a brand new outdoor terrace called Gio’s Terrazza, providing a breathtaking view of the ship’s iconic Boardwalk.
Returning dining venues include The Mason Jar Southern Restaurant & Bar, Windjammer, Hooked Seafood, and Chops Grille. Notably, Chops Grille will now be connected to Trellis Bar, creating a seamless and convenient experience for guests.
When it comes to bars, the Utopia will boast over 20 distinct bars and entertainment spots, including live music venues and two casinos. Among the exciting newcomers is Pesky Parrot, a Caribbean-themed bar situated in the Royal Promenade. This vibrant spot will specialize in fruit-based cocktails and frozen drinks, adding a tropical twist to the onboard experience.
Royal Caribbean offers a variety of entertainment venues to suit every taste. Experience the lively Music Hall, the cozy Bell & Barley, or the sophisticated piano bar, Schooner Bar. Be captivated by iconic spots like the AquaTheater, Studio B, and the Royal Theater.
