Anthem of the Seas – ship review

The Anthem of the Seas, with its 4,180-passenger capacity, is the impressive second addition to Royal Caribbean’s Quantum Class. This grand ship offers an abundance of dining options, bars, and entertainment choices that are sure to keep you captivated throughout your week-long voyage. With its vibrant and dazzling ambiance, it evokes memories of a luxurious Las Vegas hotel. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between contemporary elegance and unadulterated enjoyment.

The size of the Royal Caribbean Anthem of the Seas is quite remarkable. It boasts 2,090 cabins, some of which were first introduced on its sister ship, the Quantum of the Seas. Additionally, there are 18 restaurants and a multitude of exciting activities for passengers of all ages. From numerous pools, a splash zone, a fully-equipped gym, and a rejuvenating spa to kids’ and teens’ clubs, a casino, and an indoor sports and entertainment center, there is something for everyone. While the ship’s capacity means that public spaces will be shared with a large number of fellow travelers, the adult-only Anthem of the Seas Solarium offers a peaceful escape from the crowds and children. Complete with a pool, whirlpools, comfortable sun loungers, and a charming bistro, it provides a serene oasis.

Deck plans

Thoughtfully designed, the deck plans of the Anthem of the Seas ensure a seamless flow and easy navigation throughout the ship.

For light sleepers, the best decks on the Anthem of the Seas are 7 through 10. Deck 11 is also an option, but keep in mind that it is shared with the Adventure Ocean kids’ club. If you value a mid-afternoon nap, it’s advisable to choose a room on a lower level.

As for the Anthem of the Seas’ last refurbishment, it hasn’t had one yet. Originally scheduled for upgrades in 2020, they were unfortunately cancelled due to the global pandemic. However, the ship has undergone dry dock maintenance and remains in good condition. Despite its age, the Anthem still impresses with its modern amenities. From superfast Internet to iPad check-in, RFID bracelets, online bookings for restaurants and activities, and even robot bartenders, the ship sets a new standard for technology in the cruise industry. And the best part? It all functions seamlessly.

One drawback of the Royal Caribbean Anthem of the Seas is the potential to spend a significant amount of money onboard. Considering the already high cruise fares, this can be a concern, BUT IF you seek an exhilarating experience during your cruise and enjoy a selection of dining options, bars, and awe-inspiring entertainment, then this vessel is the perfect choice for you.

Onboard activities

Anthem of the Seas offers a fantastic experience for individuals traveling alone, couples, and families. The ship boasts an array of impressive features, such as the RipCord by iFly, a simulator that allows you to experience the thrill of skydiving. For breathtaking views, there’s the North Star, a captivating glass capsule shaped like a jewel, which ascends 300 feet above sea level, offering a complete 360-degree panorama of the surroundings.

Another highlight is the SeaPlex, the largest indoor sports and entertainment complex at sea. Here, you can enjoy a variety of attractions, including bumper cars, roller skating, video gaming, and even a circus school where you can take flying trapeze classes. Each day, Anthem of the Seas offers a multitude of activities to keep guests entertained, such as salsa lessons, workshops, trivia games, and table tennis competitions, among others.
When it comes to nightlife, the ship’s Esplanade and The Via are the places to be. These areas serve as the heart of the ship’s evening entertainment, boasting a variety of bars and restaurants. Separated by a stairwell and a bank of elevators, The Via also features high-end shops alongside its dining and drinking establishments.

Tasty restaurants

The ship boasts a grand total of 18 dining establishments, with Jamie’s Italian being one of them. This particular restaurant is a collaboration with a renowned chef. Another noteworthy eatery on the ship is Wonderland, which marks the cruise line’s initial venture into molecular gastronomy. While some restaurants require payment, the ones with additional fees undoubtedly provide the most exceptional culinary experience onboard.

Dress code

During the daylight hours, you have a lot of flexibility in your attire. You can wear swimsuits and shorts by the pool, but remember to put on a shirt if you’re dining indoors.
When it comes to nighttime, the resort has a casual dress code. Men should wear slacks or khakis with collared shirts, while women can opt for sundresses, capris, nice slacks, or skirts with blouses.
On formal nights, which usually happen twice during a one-week cruise, the dress code is a bit more formal.

Women can wear evening gowns, cocktail dresses, or dressy slacks with blouses. Men have the option of wearing tuxedos, suits, or slacks with sports coats, dress shirts, and ties (if desired).
Remember to wear shoes in all dining venues at any time of day. Tank tops are not allowed for dinner, except in the buffet area. Additionally, it’s best to avoid wearing shorts during dinner in the main dining room and most specialty restaurants.

Anthem of the Seas is a popular choice for families, couples, and friends looking for a wide range of amusement park-style activities and diverse cabin options. Passengers from North America and the U.K. are especially drawn to this cruise ship.
