Fincantieri, a global leader in shipbuilding, has secured contracts with Viking to build two new cruise ships, marking the continuation of a long-standing partnership. Following the successful delivery of previous Viking vessels, these new ships are scheduled for completion in 2030. Each ship will weigh approximately 54,300 tons and have the capacity to host 998 guests.
In a further commitment to expanding Viking’s fleet, Fincantieri and Viking have arranged options for four additional vessels, with projected delivery dates in 2031 and 2032.
Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Fincantieri, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, noting, “This order strengthens our collaboration with Viking and highlights Fincantieri’s role in pioneering advancements in naval engineering. It enhances our order book and ensures long-term, sustainable work in our shipyards. Our mission is to lead the cruise industry towards energy-efficient solutions, reflecting the goals set out in our Industrial Plan.”
The agreement deepens a relationship between Fincantieri and Viking that began in 2012 and now includes 22 vessels, spanning both cruise and expedition ships, built in collaboration with Fincantieri’s Norwegian subsidiary, Vard. This expansion underscores the companies’ shared commitment to innovation and environmentally responsible shipbuilding.
